Can we talk about the Legacy Challenge?

This is more of a rant than anything else. If I used Twitter, this would easily be a thread there, but I decided to bring it here instead.

Anyway, one of the thoughts I've been having about The Sims is that the Legacy Challenge requires way more than I was expecting. When I was a kid, I played The Sims with one family for many generations and it wasn't hard. But now that I'm actually doing a challenge, things feel way more... well, challenging. After a few generations, the gameplay starts to get kinda boring if you don't make up some crazy stories, which I'm not really used to. I've always played The Sims in the most basic, simple, boring way possible.

With the Legacy Challenge, though, I'm trying to be more creative and give each Sim their own unique story. Especially because I'm sharing this family's story with other people, so imagine if everything started looking the same, if every generation felt identical, there'd be no fun in that. I'll admit, I've thought about retiring my current family and starting over with something more unique for each generation. I even considered those challenges where every generation has a different theme. But I'm not gonna ditch this family; I'll at least try to get to the 10th generation like the rules say. Maybe I'll start a new save, maybe I'll run a parallel family at the same time, I'm not sure yet.

Oh, and I was super happy that I managed to fix my screenshots, they're not dark anymore. I was also excited because I finally made a gorgeous Sim like the ones I see other people creating. Of course, I had to download thousands of custom content pieces to make that happen, but who cares. Speaking of that Sim, Sophie, I'm really hyped to play with her once she becomes the 5th Gen heir. Instead of paying attention in class at college, I was busy thinking about her storyline, and I think it's gonna be fun to bring it to life.

Sophie

I once said I hated moving my Sims into different houses, but with the story progression mod it's not so bad. It makes inactive Sims (those you're not playing) live their own autonomous lives. My Sim Melody had 9 kids, and there's no way I could take care of all of them, give them families, jobs, max out their skills... my laptop would literally cry with that many people in one household. So most of them moved out, and honestly, I don't regret it at all. It's really fun to bump into them around town or hear that they got married and had kids.

I've been making a family tree on an external site because it's easier and more fun to keep track of than the in-game one. I know there's a mod that expands the family tree size, but honestly, I'm only downloading mods that feel necessary, I can't really count on my laptop being too generous. On my Legacy Challenge page, I used to tell the story in bullet points, but I switched to a narrative style instead. I think it's more interesting that way; the bullet points were feeling too dry and boring.

Family

By the way, I'm really proud of the page layout, it turned out exactly how I wanted, super similar to the game's launcher. I even managed to find the game's cursor. I've been pretty obsessed with The Sims lately, as you can probably tell, so I've been consuming a lot of Sims content on YouTube. It's kinda tough because there are very few Sims 3 creators, so I gave in and started watching Sims 4 gameplay. I've been following MissLollypopSims' series, it's still at the beginning, but it's really interesting. Plus, her Sims are absolutely stunning.

So yeah, those are my thoughts about The Sims over the past few weeks. Thanks for reading.
